Right now Colorado is getting dumped on with snow, and we can’t wait to go get some fresh powder. And one of the most extreme places to ski in Colorado is our Destination of the month, Silverton Mountain in Silverton, CO.

Skiing

Silverton Mountain is one of if not the most extreme ski resort throughout Colorado. With only one chairlift on the mountain, this is a resort where you want to get a guide. If you're willing to spend some money on the trip, you can also get a heli-skiing experience in. There are a ton of options to choose from, to see a full list click here. Be aware that this mountain is for experts only. You'll need to be outfitted with a beacon, backpack with snowboard/ski carrying capabilities, a shovel, and a probe to ride. You don't need snowshoes or skins as every run is accessible by boot pack trails. Just make sure but you need to be prepared for some serious hiking!

Where to Camp?

There's an abundance of small hotels and motels in Silverton, but why spend the extra money when you have your Roofnest? There's a beautiful campground only .6 miles from downtown Silverton called Molas Lake Campground. Molas has 57 campsites to choose from that range anywhere from $20 - $40 a night depending on the site size and exact area. One of our favorite things about Molas is you don’t have to worry about showing up late and being stuck without a site because you can make a reservation here.

Where to Eat?

You can’t go to Silverton without stopping by the famous Brown Bear Cafe. With the to-die-for blueberry pancakes, it's the perfect place for a pre-ski meal. If you're looking to grab a beer and some food after a long day on the slopes you have to stop by Avalance Brewing. They have 6 rotating taps of brewed in house beers at all times and a mouthwatering selection of hand made foods. This is the perfect place to kick back and let your feet breathe after an epic day on the slopes.

We know where we’re headed next weekend — who’s going to join us? From the mouthwatering food at the brown bear, steep and deep lines at Silverton, to fresh craft beer from Avalance, we can’t think of a better place to head.
