What's the best rooftop tent for a 2024 Toyota Tacoma?

Now Toyota is rebuilding the truck from the ground up. The 2024 model has more features and better performance than ever before. If you are looking to grab yourself a new 2024 Toyota Tacoma as the basis for your new overlanding rig, you’re gonna need a place to sleep.

1. Condor 2
What better tent to pair with the new iteration of Toyota’s legendary pickup than the newest Roofnest rooftop tent? The Roofnest Condor 2 takes the spacious and capable Condor and just ramps up the features to 11.
Retained from the original Condor is the spacious foldout bed design. This means you get a cavernous sleeping area that measures 81 inches long by 53 inches wide. (That's basically the same space as a queen-size mattress.) Inside the Condor 2, the interior has been upgraded to include a six-pocket gear storage grid, a duffle compartment to store soft items like bedding when the tent is closed, dimmable LED lights, HVAC ports, and the whole tent is made with a new blackout material that is more durable and quieter than before.
The shell of the Condor 2 features a new construction of ABS over an aluminum boxed frame. That aluminum frame allows for enough strength that the Condor 2 now supports crossbars capable of holding an extra 160 pounds of weight, making it easy to mount items like bikes to the top of the tent. And finally, to make the Condor 2 more rugged than ever before, that ABS shell is factory coated in Line-X.
Despite all these features, and that huge sleeping area, the Condor 2 measures just 60-inches long and 49-inches wide when it’s closed up. That means that you could mount the Condor 2 over the bed on both the five-foot and six-foot bed configurations of the new Tacoma.
2. Condor Overland 2
The next roof top tent on our list is the Condor 2 Overland. The Overland model of the Roofnest Condor 2 features all the same great upgrades like the spacious interior, upgraded tent material, HVAC port and more. The big benefit with opting for the Overland model means you swap the ABS outer shell for a full aluminum unit.
Along with being even more durable against bangs and scrapes, the switch to aluminum allows for the addition of five t-track channels to the exterior of the Condor 2 Overland. This allows you to attach all manner of extra gear and equipment to the outside of your Roofnest rooftop tent. It doesn’t matter if you need space for more lights, a shovel, traction ladders or any other piece of gear, the Condor 2 Overland can hold it.
In another move to make the Condor 2 Overland more durable and more convenient for owners, the gas lift struts have been relocated to the inside portion of the shell, protecting them from the weather and debris of travel. This also frees up even more space for exterior mounting with those integrated T-channels.
3. Falcon Pro
We couldn’t talk about the best overlanding truck on the market without mentioning our premier tent, the Falcon Pro. This roof top tent is designed to survive torturous conditions, have the quickest setup and teardown possible, and do it all while still packing lots of luxury features.
On the practical side of things, the Falcon Pro shares a lot of features with the Condor 2 Overland. You get a tough aluminum shell, included crossbars, and integrated channels for exterior gear mounting. Rather than a larger fold out design, however, the Falcon uses a more traditional clamshell for quick setup and teardown, even when the conditions are less than ideal.
This special modified clamshell design also allows for massive headroom, huge windows, and even an integrated skylight. When fully opened and set up, you get a full five-feet of interior headroom at the highest point. This design also allows for you to keep your bedding stored inside the tent when it’s closed. Another nod to making it quick and easy to get camp setup.
One of our favorite features of the Falcon Pro design is how the clamshell opening gives you three access doors, one to the rear and one either side. This means that no matter where you end up parking, or how narrow your campsite is, you can easily get into and out of the Falcon Pro.
With a closed length of 83.5 inches, the Falcon Pro will need to be mounted over-cab, but you don’t need to worry too much about vertical clearance as the tent is just 8-inches tall when closed up.
4. Meadowlark
If your focus is building a Toyota Tacoma that is as light and nimble as possible for better handling and fuel economy when out in the wilderness, the Meadowlark is a great option. When closed, the Meadowlark measures a minuscule 47 inches by 44 inches, small enough that you will still have open bed space for storing gear or taller items. You can mount the tent close to the cab to free up space at the tailgate, or move the tent to the back of the truck bed to make room for a rear cab rack or in-bed tool box. From a weight perspective, the Roofnest Meadowlark only asks for 90 pounds of your precious payload capacity, making it one of the lightest rooftop tents on the market.
Even with such a small footprint, the intelligent design of the Meadowlark means you have a full interior volume that is 80 inches by 43 inches.
