After catching up with one of our favorite creators, Mojo Monroe, he shared a tale all too fitting for Halloween. Let's just say we love sleeping off the ground.
"I was camped outside Phantom Canyon near Cañon City, Colorado, perched on a rocky shelf with little juniper trees scattered around camp. It was a beautiful spot, a dark night, and the kind of place that makes you feel like you have the whole wilderness to yourself.
I wandered away from camp to water the trees, minding my own business, when I spotted what looked like the silhouette of an absolutely massive spider. Naturally, I went closer, because apparently my survival instincts were on vacation.
Turns out, it was a massive brown tarantula.
A little research later, I discovered Colorado has wild tarantulas, and around mid-September, the males get incredibly active during mating season. Apparently, they hit the road looking for love. Some guys buy flowers. These guys wander the desert looking like eight-legged nightmares.
Even better? Their eyes reflect your headlamp. So as I scanned the darkness, I started noticing little shimmering points of light scattered across the ground. Each one was basically a tiny pair of glowing spider eyes staring back at me.
And that’s when I developed a whole new appreciation for my Roofnest.
There I was, safely tucked away in a quality rooftop tent, elevated above the rocky ground, with a perfectly good Jeep between me and whatever romantic adventures were happening below. The Roofnest was keeping me comfortable, dry, and blissfully separated from the local dating scene.
I just had one lingering question as I climbed into bed:
Tarantulas can’t climb, right?
Because if they can, I’d like to formally apologize to Roofnest for testing that part of the product.
Either way, I slept pretty well that night. High, dry, and hopefully tarantula-free. And honestly, after meeting the local wildlife, that’s about all you can ask for."
